ADD Testing Q&A

What is ADHD testing?

ADHD, or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, is a condition that makes it difficult to pay attention and sometimes sit still. Dr. Massey helps you understand your cognitive function status during ADHD testing and creates a treatment plan to support improved focus and productivity.

Which symptoms might warrant ADHD testing?

Symptoms of ADHD can include:

  • Trouble paying attention
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Impulsive behaviors
  • Trouble multitasking
  • Disorganization
  • Difficulty prioritizing
  • Poor time management
  • Difficulty staying on task
  • Restlessness
  • Poor planning
  • Frequent mood swings
  • Low frustration tolerance
  • Problems following through on tasks
  • Difficulty coping with stress

You might also have a hard time sitting still or be overly active (hyperactive) in addition to struggling to focus.

What are the risk factors for ADHD?

ADHD risk factors can include:

  • Family history of ADHD
  • Premature birth
  • Low birth weight
  • Problems with central nervous system development
  • Alcohol, tobacco, or drug use during pregnancy
  • Toxin exposure

However, the cause of ADHD isn’t fully clear, and anyone can develop it. It’s commonly diagnosed during childhood, but ADHD can carry into adulthood.

What does ADHD testing consist of?

Dr. Massey reviews your symptoms and medical history to learn if you or your child has ADHD. He discusses medical history, lifestyle habits, symptoms, and medication.

Hill Country Wellness Journey uses innovative Creyos neurocognitive testing to screen for dementia, brain fog, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and similar concerns.

During Creyos testing, you or your child completes questionnaires and structured tasks to assess brain function. It allows Dr. Massey to better understand your cognitive status, identify potential treatments, and monitor your progress.

Hill Country Wellness Journey also offers pharmacogenomic testing to learn which medications are the most effective based on your genetics.

What happens after ADHD testing?

If, after ADHD testing, you or your child has ADHD, a personalized treatment plan can consist of medication management, lifestyle changes, and/or therapy. It’s helpful to minimize stress, stay active, get enough sleep, and eat a balanced diet.

Stay organized by making to-do lists and keeping a calendar or appointment book. Follow up with Dr. Massey to ensure that your treatment is effective. He also offers referrals to school or work assistance programs when necessary.
